Apologies for the lack of activity these past couple months. Unfortunately, I had the experience of having my vehicle broken into while out at an event and my camera and some gear were stolen. To a photographer, that's like losing an arm. Cameras are integral extentions of ourselves and sometimes see things we don't. It's our creative media. I did, however, use the time without my gear to learn some new photography and editing techniques online.
It took me some time to get things replaced but I am now set up with updated gear and picked up a couple new lenses as well. Feeling the inspiration again... You'll be seeing more photos soon. ;) This one below is a silhouette self-portrait, using the timer and timing of my own to get this roundhouse kick shot right. Taken at Solana Beach, California. Martial arts was a big part of my life for many years and it's a good reminder to know I still got it. One of our first few stops in California, once we got on the coastline, was Pismo Beach. This was a fun beach town to trek around in. Spent some time on the pier, hung out with a pelican, and took in the amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. The beach was beautiful, but it was also a very windy day so we didn't spend too much time bathing in the sun. The sand would sting us and leave a few layers on top of our skin. On the plus side, when I went back to the hotel and showered, I felt like I had seriously exfoliated.
We also passed by a southern BBQ joint called Moe's near the pier entrance on Pomeroy Avenue. They were just opening and the smell of smoked goodness was wafting on the street. It was intoxicating and we were instantly drawn inside. They did not disappoint with the pulled pork, ribs, beans, and cornbread we had for brunch. Do yourself a favor and eat there. For dessert, I stopped in the candy shop and got my sour gummy and salt water taffy fix. They also sold chocolate covered crickets, but some things are just not meant to be consumed, so I took a pass on that one. Back in March, I went on a road trip to southern California for a few weeks. Mostly to spend time in the beach towns, and get some much-needed vitamin D. We get a lot of rain where I live, and like Superman, I need to get re-energized by the sun. But while there, I also checked out some touristy places like the San Diego Zoo and Yosemite National Park, among other spots.
I'd like to share some pics of the adventures by featuring places in upcoming blog posts. While traveling, I took about 4,000+ images and am still going through them all. So I figured small batches are easier to digest for both our sakes. ;) Here are a few previews below. Be sure to follow me on my Facebook page to get updates when future posts are published. |
